~Exciting news about Kagen structures being used our math classrooms at Haggard Middle School~

Kagan Structures integrate the most powerful principles from decades of research. Among the many positive findings of this field or research are improved academic achievement, improved ethnic and race relations, improved social skills and social relations, and increased liking for self, others, and school.

The Kagan Structures have proven themselves effective teaching and learning tools for cooperative learning, multiple intelligences, character education, language learning, and emotional intelligence.

All of our Haggard math teachers have been recently trained in Kagen learning and are implementing Kagen structures in their classrooms.

~It's official~

Last night at the Denton County Courthouse, I was sworn in as an official Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Denton County!  The ceremony was so joyful and brought me to tears.  I met my case supervisor, and she is going to be an incredible mentor.  I can tell already.  And....I was assigned my first case!  I have the privilege of working with three little boys: ages 4, 3, and 18 months.  I can't wait to meet them!  I'll be sure to keep you posted as I travel this new and most exciting journey.  This makes for the best Christmas gift ever.
Another brush with goodness....

~Brushes with goodness!

I've learned that if we open our hearts just enough, we can learn amazing lessons from our insightful children. Your children.  Yesterday, it wasn't a child, but a mom. An extraordinary mom.  As I sat there listening to this mom answer my many and probably very nosey and personal questions, I realized I needed to "steal" something from his incredible human being. I witnessed a raw honesty, a strength, a relentless courage, and a mother's love and fight for her child that was simultaneously heart wrenching and incredibly inspiring.  Because I "stole" a little goodness from this mom yesterday, today made for a really good day.  I woke up this morning thinking to myself...if that mom can do what she does everyday, then I have no excuse for not stepping into my day EVERYDAY saying, I GOT THIS!
A great brush with goodness.
Thank you, Haggard mom.
Good night.
I'm going home.

Happiness is meant to be shared so I'm sharing my happiness with you.  A very dear friend gave me this book to read, and I'm so thankful he did.  Plain and simple...the book reminds us that we're not perfect, and it's ok.  Glennon's stories will make you laugh and cry and reassure you that life can be messy, but it's in the struggle where we find our own "Warrior-ness!"

~Dipping My Toe in the Water~

Hello there!
Thank you for reading my very first post. Those of you who know me know that I am really stepping outside my comfort zone.  I'm not the most technology savvy person, but I am committed to "stretching" myself on a professional level.  I decided to start DEAN DELIVERS with the idea that I could connect with my educational stakeholders and engage in thoughtful and stimulating dialogue about public education.  I welcome you to share your thoughts and ideas with me just as I will with you.
Just a little favor to ask....please be patient with me as I navigate my way through the world of blogging.
Until the next post...
Be well...
